February is LITERACY MONTH...

Dear Parents,

Please join Mazel Teachers and Mazel Parents Association in participating in Literacy Month this February!  We have many exciting activities and events planned - all aimed at increasing your child's love of reading!

There will be many ways to participate - one of which includes visiting our classroom one day in February to read-aloud one of your child's favorite books!   We are starting to schedule parents now, so please let me know when you might be available.  The best times to come in are Morning

Once you've got a date scheduled, you will need to select the book that you would like to read to the class.  Here are some guidelines to consider:
a) It should be a book that your child enjoys reading at home.
b) The average length of the books we read in class are about 20 minutes long to accomodate the attention of the children when being read to in a group.

Please let me know which title you have selected, so that I can ensure that you don't end up reading the same book as another parent :)

Sincerely,
Morah Gaby

IMPORTANT !!!

Dear Parents,

I would like to share something special with you and tell you what wonderful children you have. Since January 1st, my back has been giving me a lot of trouble and I have not been able to really move. I could not come to work on Tuesday and Wednesday. Today I received a phone call from my students, and they sang me the Refuah Sheleyma song. It was so very touching and special it brought a huge smile to my face. They also sent home Refuah Sheleyma cards. I am a very lucky teacher to have such caring students.

Thank You,
Morah Gaby

Trip to NYC TRANSIT MUSEUM

School Visits

On January 5th, we will be going on a trip to the NYC Transit Museum. The children will be going to a workshop called Journey to the Past. This museum is a lot of fun and very interesting. I took my own children there a few weeks ago and we all really enjoyed it. Lots of interesting things to see, especially the old train cars.
We will be taking snacks along with us and lunch will be served upon our return.

 Journey to the Past
Students take a trip back in time with a costumed performer on one of the Museum's vintage subway or elevated train cars, learning about work and travel in the past.

OUR CLASS HANUKKAH PARTY

Morah Mushky and I thought it would be very nice to have a class Hanukkah Party, that ended with the children getting little presents from both of us. Before we had the party we lit the Menorah, with Brachot, and sang Hanukkah songs. Afterward the kids were able to enjoy some treats. It was a lot of fun to see them having such a great time.

Olive Oil Workshop

In the month of December, instead of going on a trip the trip cam to us. We had an Olive Oil Workshop come and show the children how oil to light the Menorah is made. It was really a lot of fun to watch the whole process.  The kids had a chance to pick the olives, and then come up and put them inside of the olive press, and turn the press to make the oil come out. One other thing that was really exciting was when they were able to pour the oil into the Menorah and watch as the oil made light.  As always I took tons of pictures for you to enjoy !!
