Hard Work in Writer's Workshop

In Writing Workshop we spent a lot of time writing How To stories. A How To story is when you write about something you know how to do really well using transition words such as: First,Then, Next, Last, and Finally. One of the first How To stories we wrote as a whole class was How to make Apple Pie.  On large chart paper we wrote out and drew the steps of how we were going to make apple pie. I thought it would be a really great hands on experience if we could really use the writing activity to make real apple pie. The class had an amazing time and each child had a chance to participate in the preparations of making  three apple pies. Once they finished baking there was nothing better than to watch them enjoy what they themselves made. :)
